Hi Friends!
More unsolicited Momvice for you---hope it helps someone out there!
Isla's at the stage where I'm starting to swear off taking her certain places alone. I hate the game of chase in a store or restaurant. I have learned that if it's a quick trip (20ish mins or less) I can go around 11 and pack her lunch (i.e.: PBJ, cut up fruit and a snack cup) and it keeps her busy long enough to get my shopping done--as evidenced today at Costco. This is coming in quite handy and is a lifeline when I just need to 'grab a couple things.'
Good luck!

Hobo Beauty (good band name?)
Hi Friends!
I am finally coming back to the real world--- that only took 6 days. Ug! I am still going to have to see someone for my neck/back issues because I think they are from carrying Isla around/lifting,etc and I don't want to stop cuddling with my girl! Time to research who can fix a 'broken mama!'
By Thursday, after spending the week posted up on the couch with an icy-hot, a heating pad, advil and watching Three Men and a Baby and While you were Sleeping back to back, I caught myself watching part of a season of Sister Wives on Netflix and decided I needed an intervention. I loaded up on Advil while my Brother-in-Law took Miss Isla to the Aquarium on an 'Isla & Uncle Playdate' and headed to the Rack to find a new wallet. I've spent months dropping change on the ground from the perfectly sized penny hole in my old wallet. Thankfully I found this little hobo beauty.....
For months I've been planning to make Isla her own play wallet out of my old one since she loves to tear through all the pockets- take all the cards out and put them back in. I figure this is really good for her fine motor skills. I requested old cards from my girls and had a good sized pile from switching over wallets.
Isla loved waking up to find 'her wallet.' She found it on the table and literally took off running with it since she knew she wasn't allowed in mine after she lost my DRIVERS LICENSE in Hawaii. It was so fun to see her giddy over tearing through it and enjoying all the pockets! The only thing I didn't count on was carting two full sized wallets around in the diaper bag--but at least she's not losing my credit cards or license in unsuspecting diner seat cushions now!
I hope everyone's having a great Dad's Day weekend!

H.E.double.Toothpicks.
Hello Friends-
I have discovered a new version of hell.
It is called a pinched nerve- which for me just so happens to be in my neck although I'm sure having one anywhere pretty much sucks. Let me just tell you firsthand- you literally use your neck for EVERYTHING. The worst part is that it happened when I was making my Monday Morning coffee. I don't even have a cool story to go with it. I was trying to make one up tonight- I liked my Sister's idea of telling people I was training at my Crossfit gym (obviously I'm a regular) and my neck 'went out' as I was throwing a monster-truck tire over my head. Totally plausible right?
Unfortunately those that know me know the coffee story is more likely (and all together more embarrassingly stupid). So this has been me the last 2 days.
I just look at this picture and cringe.
A true snapshot of suffering right?- at least I put on a bra? Winning?!
I'm normally a good sport about these kinds of things---I'm a pretty healthy person and I thankfully don't get injured often so when it happens I figure I'm kind of 'due' but this time I just don't have time for this kind of an injury with a Toddler. Running after Isla to check that she's not swallowing a hair band or eating a 3 week old dehydrated pea off the hard woods is out of my playbook as are normal 'Mom functions' like, lifting Isla in any way (total problem), changing her diaper, putting her in her highchair and having her cling to me--or touch me for that matter. That last one brings me to yesterdays meltdown--let me set the scene.....
Hubby was home when I pinched the nerve in my neck so he got me all set up with pain meds, heating pad, water, etc and took care of Isla until 11 but he had meetings until 4 in the afternoon. When he came home at 4pm Isla was laying on my lap and I was sobbing over her.
It was the longest, most tediously painful afternoon of my life.
She just didn't understand that she couldn't touch me. Trying to put her down for a nap was absolutely awful- she didn't know why she was being 'dumped' in her crib without my usual snuggles. It was a miracle in the first place that I could get her in there. When she had to prance around in her poopy diaper for 30 minutes because I couldn't lift her onto her changing table and I had to wait for B to get home I felt like a total MOM FAILURE. Lets just say tears and awful sobbing noises ensued..... <insert Isla's sad/confused/happy/grimacing face here >
B thankfully took over for the evening but the day itself sapped my 'Mom spirit.'
Today was a bit better but some more of the same too. At least I kept the tears at bay and made it through primarily on my own with Isla. I'm really hoping I'm 80% back tomorrow and can get back to real life. I absolutely REFUSE to feel crappy this weekend since we have a fun Dad's Day planned for B! Hear that pinched nerve?! BEAT IT!!! Move along to some other unsuspecting, coffee drinking victim (preferably NOT a Mom of a Toddler who can't defend herself when the little climber plunges on top of her from the coffee table she's NOT SUPPOSED to be climbing on). Just sayin.
Isla finally 'got the memo' that Mommy was down for the count. Thanks I-baby :)
The Muppets saved me. Thank you Jim Henson.

Let It Be
Hi Friends,
Sometimes there are moments--really syrupy sweet moments that just remind me how big and important the job is that I'm doing here with Isla. Many times- usually more than I recognize, those moments carry me from one day to the next.
I was making dinner the other day and I had music playing. Isla was playing with her toys and as I looked up I saw my sweet baby girl spinning and dipping slowly to the melody of 'Let it be.'
Something in that slow motion moment- with Paul McCartney's words flooding over us, something wonderful gripped my heart and softened every cynical thought in my brain. That pretty little picture multiplied my 'patience bank' and filled me up with warmth.
In that moment I was reminded of her pure innocence. Her loving heart. Her kick** dance moves. Her curious smile. The sweet smell of her baby hair. I was reminded how precious the day was and the moments are. I say many extra 'I love you's' because of sweet 'moment reminders' like this one.
Have a wonderful evening.

A Phase?
Hi Friends!
I'm in that weird vortex where I'm really loving these sunny Summer days with Isla even though she's been going through a tough 'phase' (if you can call it that). I know she is teething like crazy which alone can cause a number of issues but I think she also is really frustrated in not being able to communicate everything she wants. She uses her sign language and says a few words but she also grunts and whines and screams when I'm not understanding/she's frustrated/tired,etc. How do I help her understand how to get my attention without screaming at me? Does anyone know the answer to this? :)
From about 4pm on she just screamed intermittently. I didn't know if it was the teething issues (she has 4 teeth coming at once that I'm aware of--checking her teeth is like prying open a treasure chest....not gonna happen people!) or just that she was tired (Naps are nonexistent so far this week with the teething issues). I have been through this teething stuff before and can work through it but if any of you experienced similar issues with your little one between 16-18 months will you message me or comment ideas to help her out? I ordered a couple books to deal with my 'spirited child' (that's a sly way of saying she's being a complete menace) but other parents advice is always the best!
A little evidence of her current tantrum. That little scream between whining is pretty common these days. Aiyiyiyi.
Help a Mama out!
xoxo.

Day 31: MAM
A little note to say this is our last day of MAM and it's always a little sad to close it out. I love seeing the photos of my Nieces show up on my phone every day. Even when we can't be together it feels like I got to be with them for just a glimpse of their day. It was another sweet May--until next time. This may need to be a new tradition--- food for thought :)
