Our Fall Family Session

Hi Friends!

I am FINALLY posting our Fall Family Session from my super talented Photographer-Friend and Fellow-Mama, Aura at Aura May Photography. Aura and I met through the UW Photography Program and were quick friends! We stayed in touch when the program ended and had little ones within 3 months of each other! I love getting together with Aura and her handsome little man, Beau for play dates and good mama advice! She is an incredibly talented natural light Photographer--her work always stops me in my tracks :)

Our beautiful little family session was shot at the Seattle Arboretum. The trees were just PERFECTION and we literally caught the tail-end of the Fall color...the leaves blew off the following week. Isla was cooperative (for the most part) and thankfully so was my Husband (for the most part :)

Love, love, love these shots of our new little family.

-That little face melts me. I just love this shot.

-Me & My perfect girl :) (oh, and PIGGIES!!!!!!)

 Daddy & his little 'mini-me' :)

Thank you Aura-- it was a fabulous time :)

PS- Check out the cute shots of our hubbies and babes-- Beau and Isla are 'Little Photogs' in training! (loving Beau's Husky pride too! :)

Isla....and the ever apprehensive look. ha!

Tonight

Hi Friends!

Isla is in the throes of a serious teething event. The poor little lady broke out with a rash all around her mouth and up her cheeks. I was worried it was an allergy or the dreaded, Hand Foot and Mouth that is going around before reading up and realizing it was because she drools and then grinds her little hands on her cheeks and in her mouth....the perfect oasis for a rash apparently. ug.

Today as I was carrying her around Target I swear people were staring at her and silently ridiculing me for taking my "sick" child to infect all of the other perfectly healthy specimens who were shopping mad post- holiday deals (seriously, if you need holiday deals or any baby items hit up Target- I swear everything's on sale!)

I wanted to scream,

"Just simmer down people! She's just teething. I mean she is 11 months and has ZERO teeth!"

...but seriously look at how sad her rash is.... (and this photo doesn't even do it justice).

Last night she crashed after our Christmas with her Grandparents and then woke up several times, the main event being at 4:10 AM. There wasn't anything I could do to calm her down. She just wanted to spin around and walk on me when I sat in the rocker. I tried feeding her, walking around with her, singing and even letting her cry for a couple minutes to try and work it out. nothing worked. She finally fell asleep on me and I laid her down at 6:00. Yep- a good two hours spent fighting the teething storm. ug. I was exhausted this morning to say the least. In fact, I dreamed I checked on her and had to run in when I woke up to make sure she was snug as a bug. I haven't been that sleepy in a long-long time (which made me completely rethink how much baby fever I'm going to allow myself to get when we visit my BFF and her new Daughter in 3 weeks---remember all the sleepless nights S? REMEMBER?!!! :)

I'm also back to working on my nursing supply issues. I was kind of content weaning her in January when she turned ONE (it's coming so fast....sniff, sniff. My BABY!) but I just read the 12 month update from Swedish that detailed how good it is to continue nursing through this cold season to power her up with extra antibodies and goodies. Considering we're on the verge of flying across the country, we're in the middle of flu season and neither of us is "ready" I'm not rushing the end to nursing. I know when she's ready I'll know--and I'm pretty certain she'll be ready before I am. So here I am again, 7 months since the last time I worked to increase my supply, back to extra feedings, pumping, fenugreek and brewer's yeast smoothies- yum, yum! If it saves her from a cold or the flu--especially when we're traveling it will be WELL worth it!

Time to kick back a glass of chardonnay and settle in for a night of zzzz's ("Hear that Isla?---ZZZZ's- Mommy's sleeping tonight!")

I'm praying she got the memo.

xoxo.

real life holiday

**If you read both of my blogs this is a duplicate ... I decided EVERYONE needed to know about my USPS experience. ug!** :)

___________________________________________________________

Hi Friends!

Before I start flying off the handle I should say we had a lovely time in Leavenworth--just the 3 of us crazy kids--enjoying the light dusting of snow, busy downtown and yummy smells of Christmas. I'll be posting a million pics on that soon...stay tuned.

For now...I get to complain. Most of you know, during Christmas I pretty much see the silver lining in everything. It's the season of giving--right?!- I wake up everyday and put on my extra-patient-pants solely because it's December and Christmas is on the horizon. There's just nothing as warm and magical as December and the holiday season. That being said....yesterday was the day Scrooges are made of.

That's real.

I had spent weeks putting together a Christmas box for my BFF, Ashli and Nieces, Grace and Olivia.

Seriously weeks.

Finally, the beginning of December rolled around and I mailed it. I should have known when I mailed it and I got a little queasy with how rushed the post office was making me feel or what an inconvenience they made me feel it was to insure my package.... that things weren't going to go well for us....ug.

Needless to say, my Ash and sweet little Nieces Christmas gifts are scattered somewhere between here and Miami. Ash had a suspicious looking package show up .... apparently they found part of what I sent and repacked it but 2/3rds of the box are missing. Today I got to file my first USPS insurance claim for over $200 in lost items. The sad thing is that some of it just can't be replaced- including Grace's knit bow scarf from B's Aunt Pamela (thankfully she graciously offered to make her another one- we're so grateful! :) and dresses I got for Grace on discount.

It just blows.

Bottom line--insure your packages FULLY, DO NOT SKIMP and keep your receipts!, put tracking on your packages and whenever possible use UPS or FedEx. USPS has the worst customer service in the world--it's right up there with the DMV. You might as well just lay in the street and wait for a car to ram you because that's pretty much what their level of customer service feels like.

That debacle (that thankfully I just wrapped up with my insurance claim and complaint to the Postmaster...and reordering gifts! :) led straight into holiday stress about our Christmas Day plans. I just wanted to make the day perfect for Isla and unfortunately in the process I feel like I'm disappointing everyone else. I can't win with anyone and that just sucks....it's not what I wanted for Isla's perfect first Christmas and it makes me want to sob from my juliet balcony. Boohoooohoooo.

....and that led into Isla deciding to shriek loudly and with wild abandon in World Market yesterday while I was trying to finish my Christmas shopping. After talking to B, who was running separate errands, and requesting his presence so I could finish and he told me he couldn't get back in time I abandoned my cart with all the contents and marched her right out of the store, strapped her in her car seat and banged my head against the steering wheel.

It was a scene right out of Christmas with the Kranks or National Lampoons. I had had it...this cheery-freakin-Christmas-elf was closing up the merry-little-Christmas shop for the day. Done&Done.

Thankfully, today was better. Isla was a little dream boat. I wish every day at home with her was just like today....the perfect little eater, two solid naps, a great walk around Kirkland, lots of smiles and giggles and some big walking steps! (video to come!) I got my cards out finally (that were printed incorrectly twice, I finally just sent them- OVER.IT!), sent all my Christmas packages (so watch your mail far-away-family) and I'm about to make sugar cookie dough. I think it's safe to say I'm back on the holiday caboose....toot.toot.

Bucket List- Boom

Busy checking off 'Holiday Bucket List' items--

We did the Kirkland tree lighting this weekend--yay! BOOM!

....and before we go visit Santa formally (i.e.: in Isla's Christmas dress) we did a trial run at the tree lighting....I'd like to say it didn't go well but it pretty much went as planned. That middle shot is our all-time favorite. Poor Isla!  :)

Checking more items off the list this weekend!! Bring on the Holiday Festivities!
