Local Peeps: Grab This!!

Hi Friends!

I picked up Parent Map magazine at the library the other day and it had their "Adventure Guide" in it. If you see this you should grab it--it has a bunch of good local ideas to do with kiddos and just some good traveling tips for families. It covers Seattle, Portland, Vancouver and Victoria. Grab one!

You can also see the link here and get an e-copy.

My Return

Hi Friends!

Isla and I are back on the Mainland! The Big Island was a little piece of perfection- big surprise there! :) I just love me some Hawaiian sun, tropical breezes and mai-tai drinking at noon!

I'm working on my Hawaii post and so many fabulous little pics. I am also putting together a travel post now that we've flown 4 times with Miss Isla and I did 2 of those trips on my own (I am apparently insane!) After you hear about my plane ride home with my little-terrorist-baby you will most likely think I'm not qualified to dispense travel advise but I'm going for it anyways. Maybe something will come in handy for you!

Also- Seriously guys....my kid has been 10 of 10 lately. As in energy-wise. I have zero idea what her deal is. She is testing boundaries and being a CRAZY-TODDLER-MONKEY!!!

I can't tell you how many days this week I've said to myself, "what is a socially acceptable time to put your baby to bed? 2pm? hmmm?" UGGGG----

I wish her unrelenting energy was infectious because I could SERIOUSLY use some. The jet-lag has hit me hardcore--which I remember from our last trip but forgot how hard it was with Isla's craziness coupled on-top. Thankfully she has a bit of jet-lag herself and I feel like we're finally getting close to turning a corner with it and getting back to her normal routine. Tonight was the first night she went down at 7pm right on time. Thank god. The 8:00 or 9:00 bedtime was killing me.

Time to catch up on MAM and relax early tonight! I deserve it!

Happy to be home!
xoxo.

Momvice

Hi Friends!

More unsolicited Momvice coming your way!

Seriously, this is the best bib in the entire world.

I only use this bib--all the ones we got for gifts are packed away or used as spares if we get in a bind. This bib is so perfect it travels with us and I give it for gifts at every shower I go to!

Isla has the Make My Day Silicone Bib in purple (shown above) but I know Oxo makes a similar one that has the same function. It's $10 on Amazon. I realize that's a little pricey for a bib but seriously you will never buy another one again. They are also super cute, they come with a necklace, bow tie or dog tags on the bib. We get lots of compliments!

Seriously get this bib and trash all the rest- it's the best thing in the whole world .... and if I'm coming to your shower in the near future mark it off your list-- it's coming your way baby-to-be!

xoxo.

A Day for Mamas

It's our day Mamas.

Every time Mother's Day rolls around I think about the incredible women who helped raise me and the incredible mama-friends who give me strength through my longest days as a Mom. I also think about the immense gratitude I have for the lessons I learned from all of them.

.....Because of the afternoon chats over tea and bagels with my Grandma I have learned to listen...no matter what the conversation or how little the voice that speaks it is. Thank you Gram.

.....Because of my Mom's sentimental heart and reminders of how much we are loved I will encourage Isla to share her feelings and I will always tell her she is my heart. My greatest accomplishment.

.....Because of the first flutters I have learned that life is precious and miraculous.

.....Because of the strength and poise I have witnessed in the powerful women in my life I will remember that even in the lowest depths there is grace to be found.

.....Because of my Great-Grandmother's fiercely stubborn spirit and humor I will remember that age is just a number! You are as young as you feel!

.....Because of the sleepless nights I covet every second of 'shut eye' I graciously receive (thank you Isla and Rachel, Isla's former Sleep Consultant :) and fondly remember that sweet little head resting on my heart.

...Because of the rants and big-wonderful laughs with my mama-friends and closest girlfriends I will remember that this 'mom thing' is a job. It is work. It is wonderful. It is hard. I am the only Mom Isla will ever have and no one can do this job better than me (I keep reminding myself!) I will always feel gratitude for their support and advice.

....Because of that one time when my heart was broken over my first real break-up as a Teenager and my Aunt came into my room, sat with me on my bed and just listened. I will always find time and space to nurture the relationship Isla has with her Aunties (she is SO very blessed to have them!) and remind myself that one day, I just may get the opportunity myself (I'll rock at that Aunt thing! :)

-Because of the warm baby breath on my neck, the soft baby skin on my cheek and her sweet little heart beating in sync with mine I will always remember that no matter what we are bonded in the deepest of ways.

....Because of holidays celebrated with great joy I will remember that life is short and celebrations should be warm, joyous and overflowing with family (and bubbly!) :)

....Because of pudgy baby feet and squeals of delight I will remember that the greatest of things usually come in small packages.

.... Because on this day we remember and show great love and admiration for B's Mom who is no longer with us, I will remember to live every day to the fullest and be present in my moments. Life is much too short.

.....Because every time I wake-up next to her I realize the future is bright. The world is hers.

....Because life is beautiful. So beautiful.... and I didn't realize the depth of that beauty until I became a Mama. Thank you Isla James, you have made me the very best version of myself.

For all you Mamas, it is the hardest job in the world and you deserve every second of praise and admiration. A toast to you.

xoxo.

Momvice!

Hi Friends!

Some fun 'momvice' on your Saturday!

If you're in the market for parenting books stock up at Half Price Books! I found 3 parenting books that have been on my Amazon Wishlist for $2-4!! Steal!

I also stocked up on clearance kiddo books for Isla. She loves the Mercer Mayer paperbacks and I found a couple for $1 each on clearance. Isla scores!

If you are looking for discounted activity books, crayons (I just saw the Alex Finger crayons for $5!) or puppets (below) check out Half Price! They don't ONLY carry books!

For Mother's Day my Sis treated me to a new VS bra since Isla and I have said 'so long' to nursing. It was kind of a nice farewell -- bittersweet and I am wonderfully outfitted with a super comfy new bra! It helps ease the transition and it's good to get measured post nursing anyways! :)
