Several Things.

Hi Friends!

Several things to note....on Saturday I realized my kid had totally faked me out when she started randomly eating croutons when B was watching her.

CROUTONS YOU GUYS?!

As soon as he told me I was like 'I CAN'T BELIEVE SHE FAKED ME OUT LIKE THAT! I TOTALLY THOUGHT HER HUNGER STRIKE WAS TEETHING. ISSSSLLLAAAAAA!!" :)

Regardless, I'm glad the hunger strike is a thing of the past and she's back to her normal self. She has been busy loading up the tank daily- in fact I've had to put the kibosh on the million snacks she wants daily (even when she's scaling the pantry) and asking for more food after spitting up intermittently over an hour (that would be today). She's always been a bit of a 'barfer' so it really doesn't phase me anymore! For the most part she's been a really good eater the last 4 days and is even back to trying her veggies. Thank the LORD! (One less thing for me to worry about!)

She is also sleeping through the night again--I'm knocking on wood as I type this--but seriously, she's sleeping through the night and you guys seriously, hold on to your seats for this....she napped yesterday...it may have only been for 15 minutes (seriously, 15) which doesn't even 'count' as a real nap but the fact that she even laid down is a MIRACLE in the making. It's literally been over three months since she would even lay down in her crib in the afternoon. I was so shocked I did silent fist pumps in front of the computer and treated myself to a mid afternoon mocha. Thrilling.

I am super excited for a last minute holiday photo session for friends I'm squeezing in Sunday--can't wait to post it. SUCH CUTE IDEAS are happening right.this.second!

oh and I had the MOST annoying experience today...just give me a sec to rant about this...I went to a local Dermatologist's office because of this annoying rash I've been getting off and on. I parked in the paid parking (which is annoying enough in Kirkland..but whatever) and then proceeded to wait in their waiting room for 35 minutes after my appointment time. No one even said a word to me about them running late or checking with me to see if it was a problem. I finally went up and told them I had to reschedule to pick up Isla and the real cherry on the top...those cheapskate-fancy.pants-Eastside Doctors don't even validate parking! Are you kidding me?! You are getting paid the big bucks, you choose to lease Kirkland office space with paid parking and then you send your patients back out there and tell them to go buy something from the retail businesses to get validated or pay CASH because of course, wouldn't you know it...they ONLY take cash (and guess who never has cash--THIS GIRL!)

TELL ME YOU'RE JOKING?!!

I ended up with a smoothie for B, validation and a deep resentment for this particular office that will brilliantly turn into an amazing sarcasm laced yelp review. Hold on to your hats for that one.

Ok, time to run! I have to go shave. Seriously, I said "Sandi at 8:30 you need to shave your legs. It's getting weird." (I panicked at the Dr and was like, "crap, I hope they don't ask me to take off my pants and wear one of those gowns, I didn't shave my legs!" HAHAHAH! Mom life is so damn glamorous! :)

I hope everyone's having a wonderful week!

Christmas is coming!

Hi Friends!

Today started off great-- B has been sick the last two days and coughing all over everything. After spending most of the night listening to him hack (shoot me!) and then getting up with Isla from 4:30-6:30 (are you KIDDING ME?!!) it was a miracle that I got us out of the house and to Trader Joe's by 11am for some much needed produce shopping. I even took Miss Isla to the "swings" afterwards. She loves this little park hidden away by our condo and today she had it all to herself!

Right about the time I started feeling like I was really 'winning!' things took a slow and steady direction downhill which started with the fact that once again my kid wouldn't nap-- two months and counting over here! Even in her stroller (which is usually my secret weapon) she wouldn't go down.

I SO needed a break and knew I wasn't going to get it which is the WORST feeling in the world! (Well maybe that's dramatic but still!)

I tried to put her down in her crib but the crocodile tears were too much for me and it was right about the time she pulled those out that I noticed how congested she was. F! I decided to try and ignore her congestion issues or chalk it up to teething symptoms but by 5:50pm when she melted down naked in front of the front door because she wanted milk immediately without PJ's and a bath...I came to terms with the fact that she is probably getting sick again. UG! I ended up relenting on the bath- I mean, pick your battles right?!!- and she got into her pjs, facetimed Daddy with a 'good-night kiss' and passed out into her blankets. GOOD-NIGHT ISLA!

As I was getting overwhelmed with the usual list of long-overdue-'to-do' items I disregarded them completely and painted my toenails RED because CHRISTMAS IS COMING and nothing makes me more thrilled than a pending Winter holiday-- there's nothing I love more than a little 'fa-la-la-ho-ho-ho' on the horizon! I'm convinced that little bit of holiday cheer is slowly turning my evening around (thank god I don't have a 'before' pic....this paint job was WAY overdue!)

It feels like every afternoon has the same challenges with her 'no-napping' schedule and now with the added stress of her eating issues and irritability by 4:30 I'm LOSING.MY.SH*T! (pretty much daily-ug!)

Today I literally picked up the phone at 5:10 after she had been scream/fussing for almost 45 minutes to call B and tell him to get home immediately so I could go have a drink (or just pretend I was walking to have a drink--JUST GET OUT!) but then I looked at the clock and realized the minutes were ticking by and I was 40 minutes from her bedtime routine. So I hung on and focused on our little victories around here today...like how she kept down a smoothie that I loaded with spinach and protein powder (yes, she's still on her 'solid food strike'--although I'm more and more convinced that it's teething and not behavioral), how she was 'pretty' good at the store (minus tantrum tossing her applesauce on the floor), how when I listen and really try to follow her words I can usually figure out what smart little thing she was telling me -- that really cuts down the frustration! and how after she was done flailing around naked, cold, irritated and exhausted she came up and gingerly hooked her chin over my shoulder and gave me sweet little baby hug. Sometimes that's all it takes.

Now to restoring my 'mom bank' for tomorrow--- time for a dark chocolate indulgence and Parenthood while I snuggle under 14 blankets in my freezing condo. Life is so glamorous!

xoxo.

What's in my brain tonight?

Hi Friends!

I should really be winding down for bed but I thought I'd do a quick post before falling into my big 'cloud' duvet that I just dug out of storage because it's SO EFFING COLD in Seattle right now! (I literally almost died on my 8 minute walk with Isla today). Without further adieu....

1. Isla loves pointing out 'possession' right now...I'm always getting a matching item that she has and hearing "Islas"- "Mamas"-- last week it was magazines...I get my camera mag and she gets B's Scientific American. Pretty smart cookie (but I'm biased :) !

2. This sight that I get to take in everyday at about 3pm. She always demands applesauce in the afternoon even if she's had 14 packets already (don't worry--it's just one a day but it feels like 14). If I hear 'sauce-sauce' one more time!

3. Really taking in Fall today (even though I froze my a*% off!) The leaves are so perfect right now and they'll be gone before we know it. Soak it all in friends!

 4. How much Isla adores this Nordy's box right now. It is a blank canvas for artwork, stickers, a parking garage for cars and hangout for Sesame Street figurines. Who knew a box could be so much fun?! (Well, everyone I hear...but still!)

5. You know the place in your house where you see little kid stuff and think 'that's the sweetest! We're so lucky to have her! I can't believe that little person is ours." For me it's always when I see our coats hung up together- one big Daddy coat, one medium Mommy coat and one little Isla coat. It always makes my heart skip a beat. I'm really loving going to bed at night and seeing a little pile of toys Isla's stashed on B's side of the bed. She loves that little space between the nightstand and window. It's so sweet to see her little hang out every night before I sleep.

6. Strolling her toothbrush. The girl has priorities and apparently dental hygiene is one of them!

7. Seeing my little lady try and scale that 'big kid toy' to hang with the boys. She's going to be all trouble--I can see it already!

8. How we type. She has her keyboard (that's thankfully not hooked up) and I have mine. Little worker bees around here (bzzzzzz!)

9. My kid loves nothing more than watching videos of babies and cats on the internet. Who can blame her?!

10. Gemma. Need I say more? (I must mention that her Mom mentioned she resembled Fran Drescher because that's just funny!)

Time to curl up with my new book! My Fall/Winter book list post is to come--it's full of good reads and some bad, smutty ones too :) Stay tuned!

PS- Oh! and a Friend emailed me that her Daughter had the same issues eating solids and changing up her most beloved foods and steady routine when she was getting 2 year molars (see yesterdays post if you want more details). I REALLY HOPE that's the explanation for Isla's odd behavior lately. Today she FINALLY fed herself with utensils for the first time in two weeks so I feel like 'baby steps' are getting us somewhere. I embraced the 'no solid foods diet' (for the moment) and made her sweet potato/pear/apple puree for tomorrow. I'm sure she'll snub her nose at it, give me a look that says 'how dare you present me with this MOM!' and demand 'sauce-sauce' but I'm doing it anyways because if nothing else....this kid is teaching me PATIENCE! :)

Advice?

Hi Friends!

Last week my little one was sick--so sad! -- I hate seeing Miss Isla under the weather (although I love those sweet baby cuddles all day, there's no remedy like snuggling with Mama :).

Anywho---when she was finally feeling better it was like she turned into a different kiddo.

She has been rejecting all of her favorite foods (from blueberries to her beloved cheese--mind blowing I KNOW!) and hasn't eaten solid food in almost 2 weeks. She will only snack on yogurt, applesauce and milk. I know she's not going to starve in this house- she can pretty much request a meal whenever she wants but I am still worried about her not getting all of her daily vitamins in solids- especially for a Vegetarian! I went out and bought purees loaded with veggies just to make sure she was getting vegetables and vitamins in her diet! I told B that I'm on the verge of puree'ing tofu or beans to get her some protein! (gross!)

She also has some weird new habits when it comes to food--she refuses to feed herself. She wants to be fed or to feed others but if you suggest she feed herself or leave the spoon for her she won't use it.

She also hardly ever drags around her water cup like she used to. She has at least 2 wet diapers a day which (per her Dr) is the bar separating 'normal' from dehydration so apparently she's still in the clear but as the days go on I'm getting more uneasy about this new 'change.'

She doesn't nap which isn't news to anyone but she wants to eat dinner at 4:30, do her bath at 6pm and as soon as the tub is full she tells me 'all done'---WHAT?!---this is from the child who used to bathe for 30-45 minutes. She then goes to bed around 6:30ish and most nights wakes up an hour after going down to talk/play in her crib for bit and then goes back to sleep.

She also has been having very high and low mood swings. She gets fixated on something and it's very hard to distract her or break her frustration with whatever she's hung up on. She must have muttered/yelled and demanded 'sauce-sauce' (i.e.: applesauce) at the cabinet for the an hour over the weekend--it took completely removing her from the condo to break her concentration. aiyiyiyi!

All of this is new territory for us! I am hoping it's teething or a mental leap but I'm so thrown by the food struggles that I'm starting to get uneasy. Have any of you had similar issues with your kiddos around 22 months? Advice and words of wisdom are VERY welcome!

Thanks friends!

On my brain

Hi Friends!

A quick post on the random thoughts swirling in my brain this week!

1. The fact that my child was the only one to get up an hour early for 'fall back' daylight savings (Hello 5AM!) and still continue to not nap in her crib. ai-yi-yi!

2. The little girl in Isla's music class who yodeled though 'quiet time' - hahahah!

3. My absolutely wonderful Happy Hour date with my Sis, E and our most fabulous, Kels :)

4. So many holiday plans in the works! I can't wait to see them all come together and of course Isla's first themed kiddo birthday party on Saturday---Frozen or bust! (Too bad she's never seen it! Not that it would matter- 2 hours is like a week for her!) Was anyone else giddy over the ideas in the PB Holiday catalog?

5. Trying to be patient while I wait for my Xmas cards to arrive.

6. How much I absolutely LOVE the age/phase Isla's at right now--even though naps are non-existent she is really so much fun most of the time. She's doing super smart things and talking so much--that little human amazes me! ;)

7. Our Fall Family session (You can see all of them on my personal blog)--still drooling over them!

8. The line-up of soups I plan to make this week--Fall is most DEFINITELY here :) I really ADORE this time of year :)

9. Hearing Isla's sweet little voice say 'banyas' (bananas) and 'keeeweee" (kiwi)

and last but not least....

10. Typing this post and hearing Isla talk to herself and say "I, I, I, I...ISLA!!!" (HAHHAH!) and "MA-MA....CheeeeeEEEEESEEE" (A lady after my own cheese loving heart! :)

Halloween

Hi Friends!

I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween with your Littles :) Mine was the most perfect little Paddington Bear who got the hang of 'trick or treating' for candy quite quickly (funny how that happens!) She even swiped an extra candy bar while homeowners were 'oohing and aaahing' over her---Daddy must have taught her that trick :) I won't admit we raided her candy stash after bedtime (spoiler alert: we did....and it was delicious).

The pieces (in case you're interested): That tiny suitcase is a decor item from Amazon and I just sharpied the outside with Paddington's initials (I'm convinced it brought the whole thing together), Coat (Boden/Nordstrom), Hat (Amazon), Boots (borrowed Hunters--Thanks L!), Pants (Target!) and the tag I made myself!

We had such a wonderful Holiday! Hope yours was filled with candy, 'trick or treaters' and smiles like the one my little 'bear' had. :)

xoxo.
